About Me

Hello :)

My name is Ziyang "Claude" Hu (胡子扬). I work as a scientific programmer in the Sheffield Lab of Computational Biology at the University of Virginia. My work focuses on Python & Rust development, genomic representation learning, and natural language processing of biomedical metadata.

When I was a student, I became interested in linguistics & NLP through coursework and research. At Sheffield Lab, I expanded that interest into applying NLP methods beyond text (for example, converting other data formats into tokens suitable for sequence models).

Outside of my work, you can find me at trivia nights or soccer matches. I usually play as goalkeeper or full-back. At home, I enjoy watching movies and playing classical/fingerstyle guitar.
